Suprise Windfall!! And a Question.

Every time my family goes to the eye doctor we complain about the smell. Now that is not a statement usually associated with eye doctors, true. However, our eye doctor is right next door to a store that sells cigars and allows patrons to smoke in said store. Not being a smoking family we find the smell quite overpowering and offensive. That cigar smell permeates the very walls of the place. UCK.

Well, today I had to run to the eye doctors to pick up kid 1 glasses. Mentally preparing myself I held my breathe and walked past the cigar store and into the office. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed the cigar store door was being held open by a nice looking cigar box.

Hmm…as I picked up kid 1 glasses I kept thinking. Man. What a great box and they are using it to prop open a door. Hmmm…

Now I am an extremely shy person. (Just ask my social butterfly kid and hubby) So for the next step you should be impressed! I walked into that very manly stinky store and asked if they had any cigar boxes that they didn’t want. (How brave of me, eh?) Lo and behold there were 2, yes 2!!, cardboard boxes of empty cigar boxes they were going to throw away!! He said I could just take them both. So…Lookee Here!

This is what is left after kid1 and kid2 took the boxes they wanted. 16 wonderful boxes!! All are made of wood and smell wood-like. I am giddy with excitement. I know I can use them for something super duper cool!

But…WHAT??

So I am asking all of you crafty bloggy people…What would YOU do with all these great boxes??

I bought a box similar in size to these to keep next to the telephone in the kitchen to keep paper, pens and address books. It keeps all the scrap paper for lists and phone numbers out of sight. You could use them in your sewing area for pins, needles, seam ripper, stuff like that. How about thread? Are they big enough for patterns? How about meds and vitamins in the pantry? I keep all my meds in a container about that size.Bobbins? Ribbons?

  3. Since I love fabric, I would cover them in beautiful fabrics and give them as gifts to put precious little things in.

Wow! That is exciting! You have inspired me to find the nearest cigar seller and see if THEY have any empty boxes they’re willing to give away! If you google “crafting with cigar boxes” and then click on the “images” section, you will get literally hundreds of ideas! Have fun, and congratulations!

Glueing fabric to them is a great idea, or just old picture books etc… I must visit the local tobacconist i think πŸ™‚ I have used tea boxes for cd storage, but I never thought about cigar boxes.. it might be worth seeing if the local wine merchant has the wooden wine cases too…

  6. Would they decoupage well? They look like they might be good for that.
